What is Craigslist?
It has a swap meet or flea market feel to it. You can post jobs, find a job, buy and sell goods and services; find an apartment, and there is a place to list your business services and URL and it is all free.
The general consensus with everyone I interviewed for this article is that in their opinion, a lot of people read Cragislist. So this may be somewhere you want to be. If you can pinpoint where your target audience is on Cragislist and position yourself there, this could work to your benefit. And the price is right.
People find that the “ads” that offer solutions to problems – rather than a straight “sales ad” get more attention. You do have to re-post every week, but that isn’t that big of a deal for the exposure you can get. You can only post the same message in one area under your state. The most popular aspect of Craigslist seems to be the job posting and if you are trying to buy or sell something. If you have a business you are trying to sell something, and to list it is free.
Cragislist has local classifieds and forums for 450 cities worldwide. The forums are community moderated and largely free. Cragislist was started in 1995 by Craig Newmark in San Francisco, CA. The Cragislist website gets more than 5 billion page views per month as of this writing.
